A DIN Rail power supply is the central unit for power distribution. It takes the AC voltage from the line and converts it into DC voltage. The DIN rail comes in 3 different categories
- Top Hat Section, Type Ω or Type O having cross-section that is in the shape of a hat – it is 35 mm wide and is used for mounting relays, motor controllers, circuit breakers, and programmable logic controllers among others.
- C section – they come in various heights and are named C50, C40, C30, and C20. The numbers indicate the net vertical height of the rail.
- G section – this rail is used to hold high power and heavier components. Usually mounted with the deeper side at the base, the hardware is snared over the lip and turned until it clips into the shallower side.
