You’ve probably seen people posting avatars that look almost like Bitmoji or Memoji avatars all over your Facebook feed. If you can’t figure out how to get your own, don’t worry. The process isn’t very obvious, but once you know what to look for, setting up your avatar is easy. Here’s how to how to make a Facebook avatar and how to use your own mini-me.
How to find the avatar option
To get to the setup, open the Facebook app and tap on the menu. Then, tap on See More and Avatars. Now you should be looking at the avatar creation screen. From here you can choose the skin tone, face shape, hairstyle, facial features, body shape, and clothing for your avatar.
If you can’t remember what your particular facial features look like while you’re setting up your avatar, just tap on the mirror icon in the upper right corner. Your camera will open and you will be able to look at yourself in a little rectangle while you choose facial features.
Once you’re done, click the checkmark icon to save your avatar. Now it’s ready to use.
How to use your Facebook Avatar
Now that you have your avatar, Facebook will make stickers from your avatar that can be used in comments. To access your personalized stickers, tap the Smiley face icon in the comment box when you’re using the app, and then tap on your Avatar icon.
The stickers are also accessible through the avatar section of the app. Once you are done creating your avatar you will see three icons in the upper right of the screen. Tap on the Sticker icon and you will see all of your custom avatar stickers. To use one, tap on the sticker and choose either Send in Messenger or More Options. If you choose More Options, a new screen will open and will give you a wide range of sharing options, from email to your Facebook feed. If you choose Send in Messenger, you can choose who to send your sticker from your contact list.
You can also make your avatar your Facebook profile picture. Go back to the avatar section of the Facebook app by going to the menu, and then tap on See More and Avatars. You’ll find your avatar standing there, waiting to take action. In the upper right-hand corner there will be three icons. Tap the arrow button and a menu will pop up. Choose Set as Profile Picture from the menu. Next, choose a pose from the list and a background you would like for your profile photo. Then, tap Next. If you want your profile picture to be temporary, tap on the 7 Days option. If you want it to be permanent, choose the Save option.
How to edit your Facebook Avatar
If you decide you want to change your avatar’s clothing or that you want to tweak its looks, changing things up is easy. Go back to the avatar section and tap on the icon with the pencil in the upper right corner of the screen. You’ll be taken back to the creation screen where you can play around with all of the options again.
