Funding available for projects encouraging females into STEM

Local charities and community groups with a particular focus on inspiring and encouraging women and girls into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) are being urged to apply for up to £20,000 of funding.

Applications for funding from People’s Postcode Trust, a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, are open from 1-15 August, and a funding pot of £1million is available for projects focussing on employability, promoting human rights and combatting poverty.

The trust is particularly interested in seeing applications from projects aiming to support women with employability skills for STEM industries.

Laura Chow, Head of Charities at People’s Postcode Lottery, said: “This year saw over 10,000 organisations in the UK publish a report into the gender pay gap and findings from our own report highlighted that we could do more to encourage women into highly specialised STEM fields, where women are traditionally under represented.

“Grass roots community projects play a huge role in inspiring the next generation of creative coding geniuses and female tech leaders, so I’d urge as many groups as possible to get an application in.”

For any groups seeking funding that falls outside of this category, players of People’s Postcode Lottery also support two other trusts which are also currently accepting applications: Postcode Local Trust and Postcode Community Trust.
